Honic's core Pillars of Data Privacy and Data Security

We get often asked "How exactly does the platform work". Here are our core pillars:

Honic was developed from scratch in 2022, allowing us to consequently apply both architecture principles (protection & security) from the first day on.

The data concept was co-developed with the relevant German data protection authority and patient organizations, ensuring that all data is handled securely and in compliance with the highest global standards. The Honic platform processes data in one integrated infrastructure from Data Provider to Data User.

All research data is pseudonymized through our external trust center Bundesdruckerei (Federal printer of the Republic of Germany), ensuring highest data protection standards.

The use of health data at our platform is supervised by an external compliance board, constisting of an independent representative from a national patient ogranisazation as well as a renowed scientist.

After linking data across silos, the relevant data set is anonymized in a project-specific manner. Anonymization follows the Five Saves framework.

Only Data Users who apply scientific principles to research for the common good are allowed to analyze anonymized data packages. The underlying project specific evaluation is done by the external compliance board and Honic.

No data leaves Honic. Instead, Honic grants selected researchers temporary access to their anoymized data set in Honic‘s own Analytics environment / secure processing environment.

Honic's platform is 100% "Made in Germany," utilizing trusted partners such as Bundesdruckerei, Secunet, and STACKIT. All data remains within European jurisdiction as Honic does not use any non-EU cloud providers or services with access to health data.
